Antennas for industrial gateways, remote monitoring systems and wireless equipment.

Industrial IoT Antenna Solution

Industrial IoT & Remote Monitoring Antenna Solution

Industrial IoT systems use wireless communication to connect machines, sensors, gateways and monitoring platforms. These systems can be found in factories, utility equipment, energy systems, industrial cabinets, remote monitoring stations and other connected applications.

A reliable antenna is required to transfer data between the wireless device and the network. KEESUN provides antenna solutions for industrial IoT and remote monitoring equipment, covering common wireless technologies such as 4G LTE, 5G, Wi-Fi, GNSS and LoRa.

Wireless Communication for Industrial Equipment

Industrial monitoring equipment may be installed indoors, outdoors, inside control cabinets or in remote locations. The antenna requirements therefore vary from one application to another.

A 4G LTE or 5G antenna can be used when industrial equipment needs to communicate with a cellular network. This is suitable for remote monitoring devices, industrial routers, gateways and equipment that needs to send data to a cloud platform.

For shorter-range local communication, Wi-Fi or other wireless technologies may be used. LoRa antennas can also be used in applications where sensors need to communicate over longer distances with relatively low data requirements.

Some industrial devices require both communication and positioning. In these applications, a combination of cellular and GNSS antennas can provide mobile network communication and positioning functions in the same equipment.

Antenna Selection for Remote Monitoring

The first step in selecting an industrial IoT antenna is to identify the wireless frequency and communication system. The antenna should cover the required frequency range and be compatible with the RF interface of the wireless module.

Installation location is another important factor. An antenna installed inside a metal cabinet may perform differently from an external antenna installed on a cabinet or pole. For outdoor equipment, the antenna housing and mounting method should also match the working environment.

Omnidirectional antennas are often suitable when the equipment needs to communicate with networks from different directions. Directional panel antennas can be considered when the communication direction is known and a more focused radiation pattern is required.

Cable length and connector selection should also be considered. Common RF interfaces include SMA, RP-SMA and N-type connectors. A suitable coaxial cable assembly can help connect the antenna to the wireless module while fitting the mechanical requirements of the equipment.

Outdoor and Harsh Environment Applications

Many industrial IoT devices operate outside buildings or in locations where the equipment cannot be protected from the environment. Rain, dust, temperature changes and mechanical vibration can affect long-term equipment operation.

For these applications, an external waterproof antenna can provide a practical solution. Fiberglass antennas, outdoor omnidirectional antennas and waterproof cellular antennas can be selected according to the required frequency range and installation method.

For compact industrial devices, a smaller antenna may be preferred to reduce the overall equipment size. For gateways and outdoor cabinets, larger external antennas or higher-gain directional antennas may be suitable depending on the communication distance and network conditions.

Typical Applications

KEESUN antenna solutions can be used in industrial gateways, remote monitoring systems, industrial routers, smart meters, energy monitoring equipment, environmental monitoring systems, utility equipment, automation systems and outdoor IoT devices.

A typical system may combine a cellular antenna for remote data transmission with a GNSS antenna for location information. Another system may use a LoRa antenna on multiple sensor nodes and a cellular antenna on the gateway.

The antenna configuration should therefore be selected according to the actual communication architecture, equipment structure and installation environment.
